Turn of The Century

This Walking Suit from 1903 was based off of an image (shown below) that was found online. This project was also an experiment with historic patterns found in a book called Patterns of Fashion. These books came with a collection of proportional rulers for different sizes as well as to-scale patterns. I used this method of creating patterns to create both the skirt and the jacket, pulling from two different patterns and altering them slightly to better match the design of the photograph.

The jacket and skirt are made out of a Dark Lavender Flannel Wool from Renaissance Fabrics, lined with a acetate lining from Mood Fabrics. The embroidery was done on a personal machine, with the design of snowflakes being a personal creation. The blouse was made with an under layer of white muslin and an overlayer of a sheer beaded fabric that came from the Penn State Costume Shop's fabric stock.
